Baby M has arrived!

In life on May 19, 2008 at 9:03 am

Well my little man had plans of his own!

This morning at around 4 am, my water broke (according to me!) or finished rupturing (according to the dr’s).  I called J and told him. I wasn’t having any contractions, so I told him I would call him back after the nurses came in and checked me.  So I then called the nurses and let them know. And of course they made sure that i knew my membranes had already ruptured the previous Monday. So they were going nonchalantly about their business, as I don’t think they really thought anything was going to happen soon.  Josh had decided to go ahead and come to the hospital, since I tend to have fast labor and deliveries.  By the time he arrived around 4:30 am, my contractions were about 2 minutes apart and they were getting stronger.  The nurses still didn’t seem to concerened as they hadn’t called my dr or the resident yet.  Finally they talked to the resident who wanted them to hook me up to the monitor.  So they did and after about 5 minutes hooked up they came in and said “you’re going to labor and delivery”.

It is about 5 am by the time I get to Labor and Delivery.  The nurse tells me they have to start an i.v. (EEKK! see previous post about needles!)  She is putting it in the back of my hand and she has to try to get it in several times.  By the time she is successful, i am crying becuase it hurt so bad (my contractions didn’t even make me cry!).

I will finish the birth story later. Gotta go for now!

Big needles and blue dye?!?!

In life, pain, pregnancy on May 15, 2008 at 8:45 am

I really really really HATE needles!  I have such a hard time having iv’s put in, having blood drawn or getting shots, sometimes I even cry!  I am not sure where this phobia comes from, but I have it and it is real.  And believe me it does not get better the older I get or the more I get poked.

So today when my doctors came in and started talking about having an amniocentesis done, it is needless to say I started to get a little freaked out on the inside. On the outside, I was as calm as I could be.  Now this was not a regular amnio in the since they were not going to draw out the fluid to be tested for anything.  My amnio would be done in order to see if my membranes had indeed ruptured (if I really had a leak or not).  My options were not do it and stay in the hospital until 34 weeks at which time I would be induced.  Do it and if it was negative I would get to go home. Or do it and if it was positive, I would be staying until 34 weeks and being induced.

So basically what I has having to decide on was if I wanted a huge needle stuck through my belly, into my amniotic fluid and have a blue dye injected into my fluid.  Then I would have to wear a tampon for 12 hours and when removed see if there was any blue dye on it.  If there was not, then I would have to repeat it and check in another 12 hours.  Then we would have our answer.  So come back and see if I did it or not!

Still in the hospital

Well it is now Wednesday and I am still in the hospital.  Doesn’t look like I am going home anytime soon either.  Since I was admitted on Monday afternoon and they did the initial exam, I have had 3 more exams to see if my membranes have ruptured or not.  The first came back negative and the other two came back inconclusive.  So they are saying that the membranes have ruptured, or more accurately I have a high leak.  So the started antibiotic treatment and are keeping me.  Right now it is indefinate as to how long, but it looks like I am staying here until I am 34 weeks (or until the baby comes if before) and then they plan to induce me. Not looking forward to that.

So I am stuck!  Anyone want to plan a jail break?!?

Hospital here I come, again

Well, I called the doctors office and they are sending me to the hospital AGAIN!  I am really starting to wish that I hadn’t called and that I was not so paranoid about things. But I guess it is better to be safe!

I have had like 15 contractions in a 2 hour period and I haven’t really felt baby M move since Sunday afternoon or Saturday evening. Which really isn’t that unusual, since I don’t feel him move a lot, but it is usually once or twice a day.  So I called and of course they are sending me to the hospital.

So I went to the hospital and they hooked me up to the monitor and we could hear the heartbeat, so that is good.  Then the nurse decided to do and exam and she determined that my water had broke! So they are admitting me. For the THIRD time this pregnancy!  Guess I wait and see what is going to be done.

Still here

Still on bed rest and it stinks. Not as bad as it was because J is letting me use the laptop when I am in bed. That helps pass the time. Because one can only watch so much TLC and Discovery Health! Having contractions but they are no where near consistent. My next dr appointment is Friday so we will see! Please keep praying and thanks so much.
